A port on the north coast of West Java, spelled Cheribon in the colonial period. The photograph this archive uses of worshippers in a Chinese temple was taken there, and is held by the Tropenmuseum.
It appears here as an illustration rather than as a claim: nobody places any part of the Mo Pai story in Cirebon specifically. What the picture shows is the kind of place the story assumes — a working Chinese temple in a Javanese town, of which there were many.
