The Yin Shen and Separation · 陰神 · yin shen
Level 24: Full Projection of the Yin Shen
陰神出竅 · yin shen chu qiao
The spirit body separates and travels — but cannot touch the world.
Description
The capstone of the separation band. The yin shen leaves the physical body, travels, observes, and returns. Its defining limitation is stated flatly in the sources: it is yin only, so it can perceive but cannot act. It cannot move an object, cannot be seen by ordinary people, and — critically — does not survive the death of the body as a conscious individual.
Danaos treats the confusion of yin shen with yang shen as one of the great errors of the mystical world: a practitioner has a genuine, verifiable out-of-body experience, concludes they have achieved immortality, and stops roughly halfway.
