This entry is a reconstruction. Mo Pai publishes no curriculum for level 17, so what appears above is drawn from the classical stage this band corresponds to — lian qi hua shen (煉氣化神), the refinement of qi into spirit — and from the shape the Mo Pai literature implies for the "The Yin Shen and Separation" band. It is a map of the territory that tradition describes, written by this archive and not taken from the lineage.
Practice
- Reconstructed from the second classical transformation, in which the work moves out of the lower field and into the middle. The prescribed method is a withdrawal rather than an addition: attention held higher, the breath left alone, and the emotional turbulence the texts call the "unquiet heart" settled before anything subtler is attempted.
- The circulation described at this stage is the great one rather than the small — the whole body rather than the spinal circuit — and the literature is explicit that it is a consequence of the foundation, not a technique to be performed on top of an unfinished one.

Not published. Teacher-verified, as at every level below — and unverifiable here in a second sense, since the classical account below is not Mo Pai's.
Obstacles
- The characteristic error of this band, and the one the Wuzhen pian is sharpest about: mistaking the yin shen for the yang shen. What separates here can travel and perceive; it cannot act, and it does not survive death. A practitioner who stops at it has stopped one whole transformation short and will not know.
- Premature work in the upper field. The classical texts treat the head as the last place attention should go and the standard cause of deviation when it goes there early.
- Fascination. Perception at distance is interesting, and interest is itself the obstruction — the corpus treats an absorbing sign as a more dangerous obstacle than a frightening one.
